IONID is pioneering the next generation of battery technologies from 3D printed solid-state electrodes to solvent-free cathode manufacturing.

At present, cathode manufacturing relies almost exclusively on Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) binders dissolved in N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), followed by long, energy-intensive drying and solvent recovery. This approach locks gigafactories into high operating costs, significant CAPEX for drying and recovery infrastructure, and increasing regulatory pressures around NMP and Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances.

We are developing a solvent-free cathode manufacturing processes that can eliminate the hazardous chemicals and reduce the energy used in battery manufacture by 10%.
